Countdown to Perspectives: Featuring Bob Beckel & Cal Thomas of "Common Ground" column

The Metro Chamber’s signature event has drawn an audience of nearly 3,500, and since 1995, has set the regional stage for more than 70 of the world’s most influential individuals who share their views and experience in the areas of world and national events and current affairs.
This year, the Perspectives lineup includes the political analyst team of Bob Beckel and Cal Thomas. Liberal Bob Beckel and conservative Cal Thomas write the syndicated USA Today column “Common Ground,” using their politically savvy differences to find the “common ground” that unites all Americans.

One of Washington’s top political analysts, Bob Beckel began working in politics 40 years ago for Robert F. Kennedy’s campaign, later served as deputy assistant secretary of state in the White House for the Carter administration and was campaign manager for Walter Mondale. Cal Thomas is a widely read and highly regarded voice of the political scene, with a twice-weekly column in more than 600 newspapers nationwide.
Beckel and Thomas will join four additional speakers at Perspectives on Friday, Sept. 19 at the Sacramento Convention Center. Space is limited. Purchase Tickets Today

Metro PAC 2008 candidate endorsement process
encourages candidates to participate

Metro PAC, the political arm of the Metro Chamber, invites candidates for elected office to complete an online questionnaire by Aug. 29, 2008. Click here to request the questionnaire. The Metro PAC endorsement process is two-part: an online questionnaire and an in-person interview.

Rep. Mike Thompson speaks at speaker series event

On Aug. 20, the Metro Chamber's Congressional Speaker Series welcomed Congressman Mike Thompson, the self-proclaimed “Blue Dog Democrat,” at the U.C. Davis Alumni Center. Rather than delivering prepared remarks, Congressman Thompson engaged the audience in an impromptu “Town Hall Meeting,” where he candidly addressed issues including international relations between Russia and Georgia, No Child Left Behind, SACOG’s Rural Urban Connection Strategies, and the upcoming elections. He also reflected on some of the legislation he worked on in the past year from heathcare and fuel efficiency bills to the housing bill.
