Aerojet celebrates solar power array installation
An array of solar power cells that will offset 4,200 tons of carbon dioxide was dedicated at Aerojet in Rancho Cordova.
The GenCorp Inc. subsidiary celebrated the installation on Tuesday. The array was installed by Solar Power, Inc. in conjunction with the Sacramento Municipal Utility District. In addition to the dedication Tuesday of the new 3.6 megawatt system, the three partners announced the future addition of 2.4 megawatt arrays. | More

SMUD to buy from local renewable energy plant
The Sacramento Municipal Utility District has approved a 20-year power purchase agreement with Buena Vista Biomass Power LLC to buy energy from the company’s power plant, which generates electricity from woody biomass.

Fact was, although issues like transportation and a skilled workforce were high on everyone’s mind, another common thread was heard: Money—or lack thereof—was evident in almost every issue discussed. | More

Study Mission finds economic activity can multiply
by focused problem solving-using existing resources

The Metro Chamber International Study & Trade Mission to Vancouver, B.C., found the region to be a window looking into the 21st Century—a region that has strategically and deliberately remade its economic base by building on the assets it has: natural resources and a strategic location for trade, and tourism. When 30 business and civic leaders from the Sacramento region visited Vancouver in August, they sounded out new strategies that can improve business as well as governmental efforts focused on the region’s economy. | Read a summary of their findings here.

The 2010 Leadership Sacramento class seeks project proposals from nonprofits operating in the six-county Sacramento region. Organizations that could utilize the efforts of 35 business and civic leaders in this year-long program are encouraged to click here to submit a proposal. Deadline for proposals is December 18, 2009. SACOG's McKeever testifies before Senate committee
Mike McKeever, SACOG Executive Director, testified to the U.S. Senate Environment & Public Works Committee on the Senate version of the climate change bill (S. 1733, Clean Energy Jobs and American Power Act). Specifically, the committee's staff is looking for input on the section of the bill that deal with transportation planning and funding. California Sen. SARTA announces new CEO and staff changes

SARTA (the Sacramento Area Regional Technology Alliance), announced a reorganization and strategic realignment of staff responsibilities to build upon its recent growth and prepare for continued expansion. Meg Arnold has been named as SARTA’s Chief Executive Officer. J.D. Stack remains with SARTA and is taking on the new position of Director of Program Development and Grants. Laura Good is assuming the role of Director of Programs and Operations. Dave Sanders, of Worldbridge Partners in Roseville, has been named the new Chairman of the Board. | More

Sacramento Transportation Authority seeks citizens to serve on bond oversight committee
The Sacramento Transportation Authority seeks three volunteers to serve on the new Measure A Independent Taxpayer Oversight Committee that will supervise fiscal and performance audits regarding the use of Measure A transportation sales tax funds. Individuals needed are a senior-level professional in municipal auditing, finance, and/or budgeting; a licensed civil engineer or professional transportation planner; and a manager of large development or construction projects. | More

El Dorado County ED staffer earns accreditation
Sam Driggers, El Dorado County Office of Economic Development Coordinator, recently earned his Economic Developer Certification (CEcD) from the International Economic Development Council. The CEcD designation is awarded to individuals who complete the multi-year program and demonstrate through testing and interviews, a high degree of knowledge and expertise in economic development.
